The soda and vinegar work to unclog the drain, the hot water to help break up the clogs and the lemon to keep the drain fresh. Doing this every three to four weeks will help prevent clogs from forming. The natural drain cleaner that is manufactured by the industry has been developed to be more environmentally friendly.  The chemical drain cleaner can be dangerous to the environment as well as the person using it.  Be sure to read and follow all safety instructions.

There are some drain cleaner tools you may want to keep on hand. The simple but useful plunger is advised for every home. The ball-type plunger will work better then the more common suction cup plunger. The heaver clogged drains may require a electric drain cleaner is attached to a drill. These drills are manufactured by companies that have been producing drills for home and commercial use for many years.

The septic tank systems require the homeowner to be aware of heavy uses of paper and greases, along with anything else that may clog the sewer lines to the septic tank and also the sewer drain lines away from the tank. It is recommended by the professionals to flush into the system every month or so with the septic tank treatment of bacteria and enzymes that will do their job and eat the waste material and thus keep the septic system from clogging up. The sewer drain cleaner may require roots or broken pipes to be removed or repaired from the lines.
