There are several different methods to clean out a clogged drain other then the most common liquid drain cleaners. The use and development of drain cleaner tools has become necessary with almost every household now having running water. We have come a long ways indeed from the hand plunger, but do not throw them out yet. The plunger still has a job to fulfill even with all the new gadgets of today.

Some of these will attach to a garden hose and then you will place hose in drain and turn on the water. Non toxic with no chemical drain cleaners to harm you or your environment. This will use cold water and is reusable.

A very inexpensive tool is called the zip it drain cleaner, a simple type of drain cleaner cable.  There is another tool called a drain cleaner snake. The mini hand held snake for the homeowner has a flexible steel wire that will bend around most of the crooked pipes. This can be used in the sinks, tubs or the toilets. Something similar to this is the attachment that will fit on an electric or battery operated drill. There is a toilet auger somewhat like the snakes for the drains.

Mini rooter drain cleaners are available. This can clean the lines from the roof tops to the basements. Cleaning the kitchen,bath and laundry drains are no problem for this motorized rooter. The length of the line will depend on the model you purchase.

Maintenance of your pipes can stop from the drains becoming clogged. There are bacteria drain and trap cleaners on the market. This can be used in sinks, bathrooms, shower drains, garbage disposals, septic tanks,RV and boat holding tanks, even laundry drains and floor drains. This bacteria produces enzymes that will eat through most common types of drain buildups. Things like fats, greases, oils, synthetic detergents, other cleaners, soaps and toilet paper can be eliminated or reduced with a monthly use. Most of this will come in a dry powder so when it is mixed with the water, it will activate the enzymes and bacteria.
